Same feeling, different technique. Take a look!
If you want to have proper form and movement while climbing on a Spin bike, you should know that an indoor bike rides differently than an outdoor road bike. The good news for you is that Studio SWEAT onDemand’s Master Mike is a master of both, and has simple techniques for you to implement.
When you ride an indoor cycle, the frame is solid steel, offering no torque. This varies from a road bike with more torque or movement in the frame. The difference between these two assemblies becomes important when riding in a climbing scenario.
On a road bike, your upper body stays “silent,” letting the bike’s torque absorb the movement as you climb. Contrast that to an indoor cycle where your body will simulate the torque of a bicycle.
How to move your body:
When seated, keep your upper body relaxed, giving your knees balanced stability. Rock your body in a rhythm with your pedal strokes. Typically when you’re in a seated climb, your body will rock back and forth, moving your upper body toward your handlebars and back up in a rocking rhythm with your legs.
When in a standing climb, you will still keep your upper body relaxed, with your weight in your legs (hands should stay light on your handlebars). Keep your legs in a stable, smooth pedal stroke, rocking your body more from side to side.
