The TRX Bottom-Up Squat
Of all the TRX exercises you can do, and there are a lot, are you dying to know why Coach Cat’s favorite is the TRX Bottom-Up Squat? I am!!
To start, a set of TRX straps is one of the best pieces of equipment for your home gym. TRX is super mobile (and travel-friendly), and with just these straps and a solid anchor point, you can get an amazing total-body workout. Because of that, we asked Cat to show us her favorite TRX exercise and share why she loves this move so much.
How to properly do a TRX Bottom-Up Squat:
1) Set your TRX Straps at a mid position, with your body facing your anchor point.
2) Start at the bottom
a) Knees shoulder-width apart, squatting with your knees up, heels planted, and your booty almost at the ground.
b) Your upper body should be leaning back at an almost 45-degree angle.
c) Arms should be extended out with your palms facing up toward the ceiling.
3) Pull with your biceps so your body is still in a squat but your upper body is straight up & down.
4) Push through your heels as you stand up. At the same time, push through your hands with your palms down, ending with your arms straight, just back outside of your hips.
5) Reverse the movement to complete the move by:
a) Dropping straight down, curling your arms back into the bicep curl position.
b) Then extending your arms, sinking your upper body into the leaning position, keeping your shoulder blades down and back.
6) At regular speed, you should flow through the whole move smoothly, and you just may be out of breath after several reps.
Why does Cat love this move?
• It’s simple – a properly done TRX Bottom-Up Squat is the only true total-body squat!
• You’re working your quads, hamstrings, calves, glutes, biceps, shoulders, triceps, back, and core – all those parts!
