5 Benefits of Going Solo!!!
Whether it’s as simple as going for a walk or enjoying a quiet cup of coffee, or as complex as going out for a solo meal, doing things all by yourself can be absolutely terrifying. Studio SWEAT onDemand founder and trainer Cat Kom used to be scared of going out on her own, but she has learned to embrace doing things alone. Cat is here to discuss her top five reasons you could benefit from this practice.
Top 5 Benefits of Solo Time
1) Talk more to new people. When you’re by yourself without your intimate circle of family and friends, you have an opportunity to talk to new people, which can be fascinating and lead to new relationships. You’re way less likely to strike up a conversation with someone new if you’re already in a conversation with someone.
2) Gives You time to reflect. It may sound cliche, but life is hard and busy. Taking alone time gives you time to reflect. Whether it’s taking a walk, having a quiet cup of coffee, or even going on a solo drive just for the purpose of a drive, this gives you the time and brain space to dig deep into your thoughts.
3) Improved decision-making. A lot of us are making decisions all day long, but we often delay the big decisions because there’s no good time to think through the details. When that occurs, Cat likes to take a swim, a run, or even just some planned quiet time alone, so she’s better equipped to focus and think about the pros and cons, the expected results, and really hone in on a decision.
4) Costs you less. Activities like going to the movies, going out to eat, golfing, or even going on a road trip are way less expensive when you’re only paying for yourself. And hey, we know it’s scary that first time you go out to dinner all by yourself, but imagine the people-watching and stories you can make up in your head when you don’t have to focus on someone else’s conversation that you’re with or worry about sharing that decadent chocolate dessert – just sayin’.
5) Avoid worrying about others’ needs. When you do an activity solo, you don’t have to check on what someone else wants to do. Caring about others’ needs is great, but when that is always the focus, you can lose sight of your own self. You’re really not giving yourself the same love that you give to others.
We hope these tips help you give alone time a try. Even if you’re like Cat and enjoy spending time with friends and family, you’ll probably learn to enjoy time with yourself too.
